On the golf just now, Wayne Grady said that Adam Scott had taken the game by the scruff of the throat. Is that an Aussie saying?

We say "scruff of the neck" maybe its throat when upside down in Aussie.

The throat doesn't have a scruff! It's the back of the neck. Sports commentators say some really daft things, don't they?
the Aussies might well use it too but I regularly heard it used in the West Country around 70 years ago
