Google Search with Internet Explorer 9

I downloaded IE9 because I was told I needed it for a specific website. I understand that I can search from the address bar now but that is slower than searching straight from my open Gmail page, as it merely opens the Google search homepage and expects me to enter the enquiry again.

If I do the search from gmail, it opens a dialogue box called View Downloads which says I can View & Track My Downloads. How can I stop this? Any ideas?

I'm confused. I don't use IE9 ('cos I prefer Firefox 14) but a quick bit of Googling shows that (in common with most other modern browsers) it's got a dedicated search box to the right of the address bar. It's that box that you should use (rather than the address bar) for the most efficient web searching.

As IE9 is a Microsoft product, the default search engine is Bing (which is owned by Microsoft) but you can change that by simply clicking on the little downward-pointing arrowhead, next to the search box.

There's not a separate search box in ie9


However, typing a search term into the address bar should directly search from your default search provider, not open op the google page so you have to enter the search again.

Make sure you've got your search provider set correctly.
