For those of you who, like me, have always monitored the singles and albums charts you may be interested to see the effect of the Olympic ceremonies and Oympic/ParalympicTV trailers on the charts:

Emeli Sande, Kate Bush and Elbow leap into the top 10, John Lennon back in top 20 and various others return: Muse, The Kinks, Public Enemy (Paralympic ad).

I think is great! Big events like this really widen peoples horizons when it comes to music. :)
You reckon? I thought the choices were oh too predictable and aimed at the middle ground. I remember the same happening after the last big Live Eight gig, or whatever they called it, (the one where Waters and Gilmore buried the hatchet). Pink Floyd's sales increased by something ludicrous like 3,000% the next week.

This thread fell flat then.
Okay who can spot which song Public Enemy sampled on this?

I have monitored the Charts since I was a lad and old Shep was a Pup but I have never known a time when an Album could be No 1 with less than 10,000 units and the Singles has had a No 1 with far less than that.
@Duncer "I thought the choices were oh too predictable and aimed at the middle ground." What did you expect?

I thought the most predictable bit of the closing ceremony was the Brazilian contribution - really tedious.
I expected a bit of innovation, some recognition of the role rock music has played in UK culture over the years, (as well as heavily influencing American music), and a nod to some established giants, rather than the beige tripe we were served. Too safe, too dull, too long.

Any examples, Duncer?
@Duncer - at an event like that, I think those expectations were rather naive.
