I,ve now heard five programmes saying how easy it is to play a ukelele and how reasonable they are to buy. I was thinking of buying some for a couple of members of the the family but years ago I found it almost impossible to tune a guitar. Would I have the same problem or is there an easy way of doing it for a uke?

Tuning of any stringed instrument is always tricky (unless you are blessed with perfect pitch); i would suggest buying an electronic tuner - a compact little device which will tell you exactly what you need to do to tune each string. Enjoy!
Define "well" ?
Its not easy to play any instrument "well" , unless you practice.

Its easy to tune a guitar, you certainly dont need perfect pitch.

these days you can find online tuners, you can get apps for your phone device etc that will give you the notes to tune to

there loads of youtube vids etc etc
or you could buy a tuning fork, but why spend money when theres a ton of free tuners out there
Checkout the 'Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain' for some uke wizardry.....
