digestives for diabetics
9 Answers
why has my friend been told that she is only allowed to eat digestives and no other biscuits since she has diabetes? I have been diabetic for 35yrs and have never been told that, I eat any biscuits that I fancy if my blood sugar is low and can't see the point of why she has been told this.

My Mum is diabetic and she used to have a couple of Rich Tea biscuits if she felt her sugar levels dropping, but was told that digestive biscuits are better than the rich tea, can't remember exactly why or what the reasoning was behind this, but certainly there was no suggestion to exclude any other biscuits.
Digestives have a lot more fibre in them than, say, a custard cream or rich tea, and are therefore slow release carbs, which are said to be better for diabetics as they help maintain a steady blood sugar level.
I've never heard of anyone being told they're the only biscuits they can eat though. Anything in moderation.

thank you all for some very interesting answers, what it boils down to then is common sense and moderation as ethandron says, but I must confess that if I am silly enough to let my bloodsugar fall too low, I will eat and eat and eat till someone takes the biccy tin away, although it does not happen very often now I have got older and slower.
