I used to remember this song as i was growing up and would like to know it's origin and what it's about. I think it has possible Irish or Scottish connections.

I just had a quick peek on youtube to confirm it and yes that's it so thanks so much jackthehat and revarkright.

I don't know why but this song really sends me somewhere else whenever i hear it so i was slightly disappointed to read that this song was written in 10 minutes on a ski lift but i'd guess the romance of many songs in our heads would be shattered if we knew it's true origin and meaning.

It's still a beautiful song.
