How the hell did Wacko Jacko get to own the rights to Beatles songs?

Did Paul and Co go bankrupt sometime ago (forcing them to flog their music) and I missed it??!!

Apparently he actually doesn't. His record label at the time actually lent him the money to buy the rights to these songs. Acording to said company, Michael has never paid a penny of this loan back

I remember reading this on an offical site around the time it was muted that MJ's finances weren't what we thought they were.

I am also led to believe that Macca owns the rights to Buddy Hollys stuff. Don't know if that is true or not.

This relates to a buy out of Northern Songs (one of many 'Beatles' companies). Macca had told his friend Jacko of his intention to buy the company to secure the rights of all the Beatle song held in their catalogue. Jacko jumped in quick and bought the company with a loan from Chemical Bank, much to Macca's chagrin.

Apparently he also owns the rights to Happy Birthday to you.

And to this day macca has not spoken to whacko,

he was furious with him for authorising the use of revolution for a nike tv ad...

is it correct that beatles back catalogue will revert back to paul mccartney in the not so distant future and if this is the case wouldnt that upset, somewhat, the current owners sony?
