I love his music, his care for animals plus his fight to save the badgers. But now I read this.

As I said, what a lovely man. Wish there were more rock stars like him.

The fact that he did this in secret is even more impressive. Easy to shout about charity...rather more classy to do it on the quiet.

Give you faith in humanity doesn't it.
'They aren't exactly two peas in a pod'
Well, actually they've a lot more in common than you think.
Hear hear. Nuff said x x
That is a really generous gesture. They thought a lot of each other.
^ and I wish there were more people who could afford to be like him, not just rock stars

It seems they had a really beautiful friendship going back many years. And Patrick himself was a very generous man so they had much in common.

Yes Zac, it does give you faith in humanity.

Lucky Anita Dobson.
What a heart warming read - thank you.
good for him. Shame about the music, of course. And the usual Murdoch press intrusion. What business is it of theirs.
The thing that bound them was a passion for astronomy. Brian only gained his degree after Freddie Mercury died. He'd put his love of astronomy on hold to pursue his musical career.
Patrick was the world's best known amateur astronomer, making him an inspiration to all. He was also friendly and generous to a fault. I completely understand why they got along so well.
A great man indeed, his work and generosity never fails to surprise me.

I often read his 'Soapbox' page where the article has taken quotes.

What a lovely man! I wish I had friends like him. No questions, no recriminations. Marvellous.
I liked Patrick Moore, but this looks like a Tax Avoidance scheme. When Mr Moore's house became worth more than £325,000 which it would have 5 years ago, it made him liable for Inheritance Tax.

By selling his house, the tax is avoided (presuming he used some of the money to get below the threshold).
But as far as I can see, it wasn't his house, was it? He just rented it for a peppercorn if requested. It actually belongs to Brian May. Or have I misinterpreted this?
What a gesture!! He is furious with the Sunday Times though.

I read this earlier today ladybirder and thought what a wonderful gesture it was by Brian May.............just shows there is some good in the world today.
That was a lovely kindness for someone he admired very much. Brian now has a very nice house. I wonder if he will use it to promote Patrick Moore's astronomy in some way.
I can't help wondering what UKIP supporter Moore thought of singers from places like Zanzibar and India arriving to take away work from locals. Also, he wasn't a great gay lib enthusiast ("the Garden of Eden is home of Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve"). So May is extremely gracious.
I thought wht a kind man he is ................
