Pork Pie Hat?

I don't think it's a pork pie.  I'm fairly sure they have a small brim and the name comes from the sides going slightly higher than the top like a pork pie crust - as worn by the character "Pork Pie" in Desmond's.  If Paul Carrack's hat were a woman's it would be a pill-box hat. It's a bit like a smoking hat without the tassle.  The look of it has something of the African about it.  I'll be interested to see any answers more useful than mine...
