Morrissey has had to cancel his tour dates in USA. He has the potentially pre-cancerous condition, Barrett's Oesophagus.

Usually our press is obsessed with celebrity so why hasn't this been in our papers?

Is this caused by talking a load of crap?
It's on the BBC website....http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21424604
Maybe because he is not really A list anymore he is not in the papers....
Sorry but ... Morrissey is known for wimping out! I used to love his music but he is a prima Donna
Because he's an absolute tit

Thanks Canary. I had searched UK papers online with no luck.

Oesophageal cancer is the 5th greatest cancer killer but no-one's heard of it because it's never discussed in the paper.
because he is a tw@?
Barrett's oesophagitis is not malignant.

\\\Because he's an absolute tit\\\
\\\because he is a tw@?\\

LOL

Could this affect his voice?
It's sad when anyone becomes ill ... famous or otherwise.

But when people alienate themselves by things like ...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/dec/12/morrissey-royal-family-nurse-death

... blaming Princess Kate for the death of the nurse who killed herself ...

... you sort of lose interest in them.
sandy..........possibly.........possibly.
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now ...

I always thought he has a miserable whining drawl. Probably can only get better.
i don't like him, but don't wish him ill, and hadn't seen anything in the news.
I'd read something about it somewhere. I just didn't regard it as either news or indeed interesting.
You've answered your own question. The press (as in gutter) is obsessed with celebrity. Morrissey is not the sort of celebrity they're interested in. He could die a slow, agonising lingering death but it would only make the papers if he offended middle england with some "tasteless" remark about the royal family in the process
Why should newspapers report on illnesses. Really none of our business.

Thank you everybody for your views. I have no real interest in Morrissey. I do have a very strong interest in the illness. Our media shies away from discussion whereas in US, they promote and focus on the condition.
I believe passionately that we need to educate people about common risks like Barrett's Oesophagus so we can make lifestyle choices that will reduce the number of deaths.
One person an hour (on average) dies of oesophageal adenocarcinoma in UK. Most of these aould have been prevented if those with Barrett's had been identified. There mau be one million of us with Barrett's in this country but only 10% know. Most people have never heard of it and, according to an NHS survey, 40% of people do not know what the oesophagus is!
My b-in-law died of it chrisrob. He didn't smoke or drink very much and let quite a healthy lifestyle, but he did play trumpet in a dance band.
