What Is It With The French And Dogs ...

... or to be more specific dogsh!t.
I'm having a very pleasant couple of days in Nice for a family birthday ... it's a very interesting place - but any attempt to walk the streets looking up at the interesting architecture is doomed to end in a pile of dog crap on the sole.
We're not talking 'little poodles in the gutter' but bloody great labradors in the middle of the pavement. It really is everywhere and I've seen nothing as bad anywhere (certainly not in the UK) for a very long time.
There appear to be laws - but not a shred of evidence that anyone gives a stuff about them. It's like a step back into the dark ages (or possibly a brown period).
Rant over - I'm off for some Moules Frites and a verre or three of vin rouge ... whilst walking very carefully.

There are certainly more turds on the trottoir in Nice, Antibes, Cannes and other towns in the Alpes Maritimes than there are on British pavements. Even the locals complain. The answer has been typically French. Rather than reeducate the dog owners or have draconian laws which are rigidly enforced, the towns have invested in little ride-on machines, designed to clear turds off the pavements. Paris also has these machines
