I have been asked to go on a bike ride tomorrow and said yes fine when where etc. Then I started to think.....as you do, and I couldn;t remember when last I actually rode a bike. I went to my daughters and asked to borrow her new mountain bike, apparently, I can't ride a bike, that's why I couldn't remember when last I did ride a pushbike, I don't think I ever have. I fell off before the pedal went round the once!
We lived on a farm as kids and rode ponies or horses. How long does it take to learn to ride a bike? I have until 1pm tomorrow.....

I couldn't watch the wheels aswell as where i was going, it reminded me of when i tried once to drive a manual car, though less noisy
find some level ground, dont look at the wheels, look ahead at where you are going, its just a case of balance. remember under fives can ride bikes so dont over think it :)
Get someone to hold the bike up while your on it and wheel you along, then when you have gathered a bit of speed lose the bike. The speed will help you balance.

lose the bike? how does that work ? are you telling me i should give up now? lol
Dot, did you forget to use the clutch ? lol.
Alright then loose.

If I could go somewhere quiet with some soft grass and a straight bit i will probably crack it, it's balance and confidence i think, i fell off several horses over the years but it's not easy landing on tarmac.

Dot, the faster you can go, the easier it is to balance. Couldn't you practice in the local park ? on the grass preferably.

I stick to my excerise bike. I have Menieres Disease so my balance is shot, I'd be dangerous on the open road.
I learned at seven years, on the lawn, which was soft. That, even so, I got 26 bruises in one day tells you all you need to know. Get the pedals set right, so your toes just reach the ground comfortably, point bike ahead, give a good push off and quickly pedal hard with the previously grounded foot, and you're away. Sounds easy... A bit of initial speed makes up for your early lack of balance and the bike seems to drive itself while you adjust.
film Mr Tom showed lad on bike on top of a hill, by the time he reached level ground he could ride. Off to Everest with you ;)
