Depressing Songs From Your Youth

I`m just listening to Killing Me Softly (on the radio) by Roberta Flack. Why is that song so depressing? It doesn`t bring back any bad memories, it`s just depressing. Likewise, anything by The Carpenters, I Can`t Live by Harry Nilsson, and Gypsies Tramps and Thieves by Cher.

Gawd blimey...I was bought up on country & western music ...love lost, or unrequited.
As a teenage girl I had been through some rough times and Karen Young's Nobody's Child used to get me blubbing. After that it was the Mud song, Lonely This Christmas.
Glad to say I have toughened up a bit !!

Not sure if you mean slow dreary songs or songs that make you sad but "Everybody Hurts" by REM ALWAYS makes me cry, heard it on the car radio the other day after a particluarly bad day and was in floods x

Here comes the rain again by Eurythmics usually depresses me. I think I was ill when I first heard it so it reminds me of that.
