Someone drainy doesn't like me..... after the problems on Monday, all's been well, showering, laundering, toilet, all OK.

Just had a bath, took plug out to drain it, nasty gurgling noise from the washbasin - water coming up the basin plug, noo....

Plug quickly back in the bath, now waiting for a call from the plumbing engineer.

why meeeeeee...?

boxy, sounds like you have a blockage to me.
Sounds like you've got some brown trout stuck somewhere:-)
Is nibble there? Get him to sort it.

He is indeed, looking at it with as much dismay as I am. Neither of us are DIY-ers. If we poked around, the bathroom would be under water :-(
Have you got a plunger, boxy. If you have try doing the washbasin with it.
Oh, nothing worse, except maybe getting gness water divining good luck x
there's a great story in Private Eye this week... officials were cleaning up after a festival in Frankfurt and connected all the portaloos to a pipe to empty them, but accidentally connected the pipe to the U-Bahn maintenance pipe and pumped 2000 litres of raw sewage on to the platforms of an underground station. It had to be closed for cleaning.
I'm glad I'm not in Germany.
no point in going now they don't hold the Love Parades any more
Wait until October, beer festivals then I think.

Sugar. I went to have a wee thinking that the effluent goes straight out. Toilet filled up and overflowed the basin all over the bathroom floor, started coming through the kitchen ceiling. Rang again - "we though we'd come on Monday" - I think not. Waiting for call again. now it's an emergency. Had to switch power off as water running down wall in kitchen. Stopcock off on incoming water, all now serene, if wading. Glad we have lots of towels. We have done a deal to use our neighbour's loo.
Oh ****, that's worse, I hope you get it sorted sooner than later xx

At least I got my bath in first :-) (although you could say, that's what's brought the problem to light!)

Odd though, we have been showering and using the toilet all week, why should it happen now?
I think something has backed up and caused the blockage, boxy. Get a plunger and use it on the sink.
Sorry to hear that Boxy :o(

I had a problem with my drains a few years back but lucky it was contained in the garden and easily resolved by cleaning out the drain covered by the manhole.
Question Author
Plunger didn't work - I found it in the shed, things were living in it :-(

Man is here how, foraging about in the pipework in the dark...........
Question Author
Tiggs, we don't know where our manhole is, or even if we have one, this is an 1860s house with T-junctions into the sewer "somewhere".
I'm sure the man will sort it, boxy.
Question Author
He might have to come back tomorrow :-(

thankfully it's the same bloke who came on Monday, so he knows the history.
Question Author
YaaaH! Bit of a mess, but he's managed to sort it, he said that following the Monday episode, it seems to be that the was not enough water flowing through the toilet papeer, and when they jetted the pipe , it cleared the blockage, but then stuck in another place in the run.

Note to self - use less paper & flush more often.
