No probs, brachiopod - I had considered spelling it that way but I have no such desires to get down wid da kids!  In my defence, I've seen it spelled both ways; I've just conditioned myself not to use txt spk on forums :-)

Nothing Compares 2 U (a pox on Prince and his txt spk spelling) is about an ex-lover. The bit about Sinead's mum may come from Sinead's admission that the reason you see a real tear roll down her cheek in the video just after the words "all the flowers that you planted, mama" is because it made her think of her mum, who had recently died. Despite that line, the song is not about Sinead's mum (or Prince's for that matter).

The Lady? herself said she cried when she sang the line because her mum had recently died. Apparently she did the whole closeup video in one take (she said so - it must be right). Please don't tell me I sound like a fan, I can't stand the woman!!
