// "Something" was recorded during the Abbey Road sessions. It took 52 takes in two main periods, the first session involved a demo take on Harrison's 26th birthday (featured on Anthology 3), 25 February 1969, followed by 13 backing track takes on 16 April. The second main session took 39 takes and started on 2 May 1969 when the main parts of the song were laid down in 36 takes, finishing on 15 August 1969 after several days of recording overdubs. //
This song - and indeed everything The Beatles recorded underline what an undersated, and indeed underated musician Ringo was, and is.
Although Lennon joked about him not being the best drummer in The Beatles, he remains highly respected in drum circcles by players who recognise his innovative back-beat style, and the constantly inventive playing he brought to the band's later albums.
He still can't do a drum roll - but hey, who cares!
Johnny Hutchinson may, or may not have regretted his decision to turn down The Beatles in favour of his own band The Big Three who fared somewhat less well and sadly failed to reach the toppermost of the poppermost.
He did play on a couple of sessions for the band, and a live gig when Pete Best was sacked, but he didn't record with them - by the time this track was recorded, The Big Three were gone, and Johnny had retired from music.
