War Record Information
0 Answers
When my mother died an old question raised it's head. She would never talk about it when she was alive but she married during the war and her first husband was "Lost at Sea" In all her paperwork there are no photo's, records etc of her first husband other than on her wedding certificate where it gives his name and Army service number. I have requested and received his Army service record so I now have a date of birth. His record tells me very little other than the date he enlisted, (early 1940). He served in a signals regiment in this country until he was posted to N. Africa and sailed on the 22nd December 1942. The next entry on the record just says " Presumed killed at sea. 7.1.43. Can anyone tell me how I can find out more, such as what ship he was on and what exactly happened to it and where. I have no emotional ties about this as Mam happily married after the war and I came along later. I am just interested in finding out a little about him. Thanks if anyone can help me out.
