No, bibble. That's Pearl.
Cannot say I have ever heard of Vinegar Joe before. Elkie Brooks/Robert Palmer combo sounds interesting though - might have to look out some tracks from somewhere.
Question Author
andy, none of those names you mentioned have the same initials. I know all of them! It's the initials that do it.

Anyway, I've got it sorted in my head now, until next time.

Here's one, LazyGun. I hope you enjoy it.

Go for the accent. Plant is a Mancunian. (Plant rhymes with ant). Palmer was a Yorkshireman. Unless of course you're from so far South you can't tell the difference.

This all started because I heard a song on the radio this morning, 'I've never met a girl like you before' and I swore black is blue that it was Robert Palmer. It wasn't.

Old Jim, they don't sing in accents do they?
Old-Jim - Plant is a Mancunian????????????????????????

Wash your keyboard with soap immediately!

Percy was born in West Bromwich, a good forty miles from Manchester.
That song was by Edwin Collins though Tilly
That song was probably Edwin Collins -
Very few singers sing with their natural accents.

I had this conversation with (warning!!! name-drop imminent!!! whooop whoooop!!!!) Charlie Reid from The Proclaimers who told me that he liked the way Paul McCartney's Liverpool accent occasionally filtered through in early Beatles songs, so he and Craig decided to add their accents when they sang - and still do.

For the full story - check out the next edition of Acoustic Magazine - at all good newsagents next week.

It was indeed Edwyn Collins. Sounded like Robert Plant/Palmer to me. :-)
I'm the same with all the Neil's: Diamond, Sedaka and Young. I know they're all very different singers, but I can't separate them in my mind.
Also, with writers Ian Rankin and Ian Banks. I can never remember which is which.
^^^oops, I didn't put that apostrophe in Neils. My ipad put it in.
Thanks for the link, Tilly. Got to admire Elkies enthusiasm :) I will look for some more now.
I saw Vinegar Joe twice; once at a festival in Lincoln in 1972 and again at Bangor University. On the Sunday morning after the Uni gig, they came into the cafe where me and my mates all used to hang out on a Sunday.
Question Author
Vinegar Joe played at my college Valedictory Dinner. I could only remember Elkie Brooks though.
Got Pearl's a Singer going round in my head now. It's nice though.
