I cant understand this - is file sharing illegal or not.  My son has IPod and its very hard to know what to let him at on the computer.

Rule of thumb: if you're paying for it, or it's from a band's official site, it's probably legal. Otherwise, it's probably not.

Also have a look at www.download.com or www.epitonic.com, the first one especially. These offer mostly promotional stuff for up & coming or unsigned bands but there is quite a bit of established stuff too.
