I am really struggling with this heat. It is a nightmare. I have a 2 year old indoor female cat called Ria who I love with all my heart. I am wondering how she keeps cool. I have all the windows open and the cold water tap running as she drinks out of taps and not a bowl.I am just wondering how they keep cool.

Mine are spread out across the floor during the day, spreadeagled....
Hey ! Cats are always cool daddio. They're just so hip. It's the other squares that just can't dig the jazz, man.
Rather than running the taps, have you thought about getting her a water fountain? You don't then have to keep mains water running, just for her drinks.

Here's one - other versions are available. http://www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/Products/CA0978/cat-mate-pet-fountain?utm_source=google&utm_source=cpc&utm_campaign=ps_productTargets&CAWELAID=720017470000019308&gclid=COK20YO-178CFSHItAodL2cA7w

My two lie at the top of the stairs - between two skylights. There is a nice breeze. They are masters at finding comfortable places to sleep.

Geordie - what is your cat's name?
..and as a long-time cat-mother, if they aren't panting and showing obvious signs of distress, they are OK. My barmy cats even lie out in the sun in the garden before they come indoors to cool down!
wof, he says his cat's name is Ria ^

I called her Ria after Wendy Craigs character in Butterflies the eighties sitcom it is my all time favourite programme
Seriously, just as they are thermophiles who always seek the warmest spot, they instinctively will seek the coolest spot in the garden. Also, they have learned the advantage of shade as a form of camouflage. All the better for plucking their feathered prey out of the sky.

Sometimes an elderly cat will lie in the sun because the thermal equilibrium will make his or her old bones less painful, as it is the difference between internal and external temperature gradients that many humans know make our arthritic symptoms more severe. Cats are well smart.
Ria is a nice name. Merlin came already named, I have to call her Princess Merlin as she is not very girly looking cat. She is fierce and stupid. Her brother was called Greebo but I renamed him Frankie after St Francis. Merlin beats Frankie up.

They are small animals but they are fascinating and frustrating.

I am going to get some sleep - sleep well fellow cat slaves .

They start panting at 37'C (outside temp)
Riley lies in the flower bed most of the day, moving either into the shade or the sun as the mood takes him. I keep water outside and in for him.
You keep the cold tap running all the time?? Your water bills must be huge. :-/
i follow murph round the garden holding a sun brolly....

Theres a lot of things different about Scotland than England and they are getting hysterical about independence when weve even got our own legal system. Personally I hate living up here and would love to go back to England
they get their slave to do all the running about and feed them
