Have you ever asked for or had a request played on the radio what was the song that was played, when was it played, which station etc details please.
I have never had a request played although I have had request that I made for my wife that was approx 5 years ago Atlantic FM then Palm Radio Torbay and Finally Pirate FM I never thought to ask for a specific song.
Last week I just sent an email to Planet Rock and the DJ read out my name which I enjoyed then as they say simple things.
Trust you never find a Rock in your Roll.
Turn the mic on before you utter the immortal one, one two , two,, two

I've sent in quite a few requests and dedications for other people but I've never had any feedback as to whether they got to hear them. (Since the requests are sent to local radio stations in Sheffield, and I'm in Suffolk, I don't listen to those stations myself).

I've also done a small bit of relief presentation work for BBC Radio Sheffield in the distant past, so I would sometimes give people I knew a mention if they'd got a birthday, or other special event, around the time I was on air. (A few years ago I was invited to co-present a show on BBC Radio Suffolk but other commitments prevented me from taking up the offer. Last year someone asked me to get involved with a community radio station in Suffolk but I've yet to do so).

Most of my emails to the late-night DJs on Radio 2 seem to get ignored but I was pleasantly surprised when Janice Long read one out (within about a minute of me sending it) a couple of weeks ago.
I have had a few requests over the years on local radio. I rang in and then they played the conversation on air ! I've requested songs by The Christians, Boyzone, Fine Young Cannibals and Olly Murs !
Uncle Mac played The Runaway Train for me in about 1955ish......

Now my lover who doesn't know he is plays the occasional request on Radio Northampton.....usually on a Saturday evening...x
Was ill in hospital had request played for me .The man read out request and proceeded to play Que ...." What ever will be will be" .Doris Day

Beniamino Gigli "Nessun Dorma" British Forces Radio in Germany 1952.
I once wrote to Ed Stewart. I can't remember what I requested but he played Lynn Anderson's Rose Garden (yuk)
In hospital awaiting a dreaded operation, I asked for a song to be played on the hospital radio and dedicated it to my doctors....

Culture Club's "Do you really want to hurt me?"
As I don't know how people will react to this, I'll tell my version and wait for the abuse.

Remember Simon Bates doing "Our Tune" on Radio 1? Well, our local station did something very similar, and a bunch of us reprobates decided to send in a spoof letter, along with three sarcastic songs. The lady was writing in to say what a wonderful Husband she had, and he'd been so supportive since the car accident had taken both her legs. Can't remember all the sarcastic songs, but one of them was "Walkin' Back To Happiness" by Helen Shapiro. Bu99er me if they didn't read out the whole letter and play the three songs. Suffice to say that our merry band were crying tears of laughter for hours, and no-one else who heard it understood the joke.

I'm still as juvenile twenty-odd years later.....
Love it Stephen - most impressed!

My sister and I had a song read out on Children's Favourites or whatever it was, in about 1960, by Uncle Mac. He said "And now one of the nicest cards I have ever had to read ..." and read out our message. Can't remember the song, but my mum banged on about for weeks to anyone who would listen, making me quote UM and his intro - aaaaarggghhh!

I'd love to send a request in to Steve Wright, but rather than saying 'Loving the show ..." as everyone who gets read out seems to do, can I say

"Steve, I loathe your patronising lily-livered ***-licking interviews, the way you let that dreadful Sally Traffic (grow up!!!) woman pad her part and pretend she is all sexy, and the fact that you talk over the outro of EVERY SINGLE RECORD YOU EVER PLAY, you gross overweight smarmy past-your-sell-by-date buffoon. I LOATHE your show and I'm only listening until you read this out, and then I will tear the *** off my radio and stamp on it!

What do you think - any chance?
I had a request played on Downtown Radio for a relative who was staying with friends near Lisburn, a euphemism for he's a prisoner in Long Kesh. A louden Wainwright song but I can't remember which one.
I was listening to Tim Smith on Radio 2 at silly o'clock once.

I texted in to ask if Janey Lee Grace was as nice as she sounds.
He read it out, and said she definitely was.
once chose a song on the Graham Norton show for his 'tune with a tale' section. I chose 'Rocky Raccoon' by the Beatles.
Graham Norton said he'd never heard of it- not much of a DJ then Graham??
At least he didn't talk over it.
Does Graham Norton claim to be a DJ?

I think even he would admit he just talks in between someone else playing some music.
I`ve had requests played for other people quite a lot. Usually when someone is visiting from away and I secretly email the local radio (either Jackie or Heart) and get them to dedicate a song to them. It`s quite fun when they are sitting here with a glass of wine and they hear their name mentioned on the radio. I had a request for me from Simon Bates when I met him at work once.
Run To You by Bryan Adams might have been one of the other songs, Andy! I'm not fit to be in Society...
My daughter was driving to Leeds one Saturday about two years ago to visit us and requested 'Valerie' to be played for me on Radio 2, unfortunately I didn't have the radio on and missed it.
I was in Hospital for a couple of weeks, and my parents visited, my Dad passed out on my bed, angina attack. He ended up in another ward of the Hospital, and sent a request for 'One day at a time' for me on the hospital radio. I sent one back to him and I can't for the life of me remember what is was at the moment.

why are you so starry eyed ? 1958
