Newsnight Last Night - Rotherham Child Abuse
17 Answers
I find it Mind boggling that Newsnight should have Jack Dromey commenting on rights of these children who had been abused in Rotherham and Pontificating about the failures of the Council, Police and Social Services when he was on the Committee of a Body (National Council of Civil Liberties) in the 1970s who embraced the membership of the Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE) into their fold, who wanted the age of consent of sex with children to be lowered to 4!!!

Dromey did what he should have done last night on Newsnight. He called for the immediate resignation of Shaun Wright, or he would face suspension this morning. Wright has now resigned from the Labour Party but has not stood down as the PCC. Legislation brought in by the current Tory Government brought PCC's into being and the result of this is that Wright cannot now be sacked. Not sure what the vents of over 40 years ago have to to do with this immediate situation in Rotherham.
The Labour Party are being hypocrits here.
They were aware of the Conviction in 2010 of 5 Asian men for abusing 58 children. They knew Wright was responsible for Child Safty on Rotherham during the period of the abuses.
Yet they picked Wright as the Labour Candidate for Police Commissioner in November 2012.
It is only now, when the *** is hitting the fan, that they are trying to limit the damage.

Hey did any notice Alan Milburn - having fixed the health service as an elected politician doing his stuff over internships in industry as a paid hack ? The successful ones like Alan and Tony - will we ever get rid of them ?

// embraced the membership of PIE //
// hasn't apologised for his endorsement of PIE //
Not sure he embraced them or endorsed them. At the time NCCL was an open membership organisation, which meant anyone could join if they coughed up the dosh. It had thousands of members, and the NCCL did not endorse the views of any of its members. PIE's membership was withdraw in the early 1980s.
