15 years ago, my wife and her friend with three young girls, were waiting for me and her friends' husband to collect them from music rehearsal on the corner of Whitworth Road and Greenbank Road in Rochdale, near a well known restaurant that looks like an Austrian chalet. Locals will know where I mean. A van pulled up with three young Asian men and asked if they could have the girls, who were aged 9 and two of them 11. They were told where they could go in no uncertain terms. The men then offered money for the girls and they got the same reply, then drove off laughing. My wifes' friend noted down the make, model, colour and registration of the van and later reported this to the police. Through various methods, my wifes' friend later found out that nothing had been done about the incident. Not logged, no action, nothing. Another friend of ours works in social services with vulnerable young people and has done for 20 years. She regularly receives calls from young people asking to be "rescued" from abusive situations. When she makes her reports, they seem to be lost in a maze of indifference. It's still happening, so don't be surprised when it gets reported again. It makes Jimmy Saville look like a petty crook.

I agree, stokemaverick. In April at least two reporters gave big hints about a well known member of the Blair cabinet who was heavily involved, but I assume the shutters have been put up and we may never hear.

In the eighties I was coming out of a private hospital in a dodgy car in Whalley range and had someone drape themselves over the bonnet of the car ( which had stalled ) - whilst I whispered 'start ! please start ... '
And I looked with horror [ thro the windscreen] at her short hem and stockings which had marilyn red lips sewn in to the fabric like sequins....

and then I learnt that a Famous Surgeon had been cautioned for soliciting outside the very same establishment ! Heavens didnt we laugh at that !

and I thought: " are the girls raising money by seeing a policeman and then running and draping themselves over the nearest moving objaaaay ? "

Again i will never know.....[ as I write this I ask myself, god it was so long ago, did I dream this ? ]
