Well no one here to object these days, though don't think my upstairs neighbour shares my love of Techno Dance music.

his lordship objects to most things i want him to do : decorating; help with the housework; being tidier; staying awake all evening. . . . . . . . and lots more.
Me constantly replaying the loud emotional endings of blockbuster DVDs, especially Seabiscuit, The Notebook, Memphis Belle, Gladiator, Eight Below etc etc. they never cease to well me up despite the continuous sarcy comments in the background (oh and turning the heating up).
I'm afraid I would moan and whinge if you played the Osmonds with the speaker disconnected. It could be worse...you could be playing a selection from bally ABBA !

Oh, it was you was it? I could hear it over this side of the Estuary, I thought someone was 'Having a Party' 'Down by the Lazy River'

Many years ago, back in the early 70's, a flatmate of mine played his one and only record by Creedence Clearwater Revival constantly. One day my other flatmate and myself became so enraged with this bally music music being played over and over again, we picked the lock to his room and smashed the LP into about 1000 bits. He wasn't best pleased and we stood him a curry in recompense but CCR was never heard again, ever....problem solved ! Wished we had done it sooner !
One thing I never understood about ABBA ( apart from their popularity of course) was why they recorded exclusively in English ? The Electric Light Orchestra didn't record in bally Swedish, did they ?
//The Electric Light Orchestra didn't record in bally Swedish, did they ? //

no. the cost of so doing would be out of proportion to the benefit, given the small population of Sweden, and the percentage of that population who don't understand English or who didn't know who ELO were.

ABBA's decision to record in English was similarly commercially driven.

But they never recorded in Swedish. Not all their countrymen could speak English, so they were denying them the pleasure of understanding the very important and profound lyrics of their various but all sounding the same songs...eg ::::

and

They don't write songs like those anymore !

I understand of course...it was just a cynical commercial attempt to make money and nothing to do with art at all.
//But they never recorded in Swedish.//

yes they did. see the table at the bottom of this page, which indicates songs additionally recorded in Swedish, and Spanish.

Yeh ABBA were pretty poor Mikey, weren't they

The "official" sales. From 128m in the early 80s to 250m by 1992 and 350m by 1999. This was then upped to 375m...and that just for albums
I never said that they were not popular or successful, just that they set my teeth on edge. I am not fond of Pop music at the best of times, although I have enjoyed the Jethro Tull clip that somebody has kindly put on a thread in Music
