Always wondered, when dance acts like Chemical Brothers or Basement Jaxx are playing live, what are they actually doing behind those banks of keyboards etc? The music sounds exactly the same as playing a cd; are they triggering samples or have they just pressed play?

I saw Basement Jaxx at Eden Project a few days ago. Firstly they were awesome, stunning sound, lights and very much a live performance.

Secondly, the guys DJ all the way through and had loads of equipment on stage , as well as drummer percussion, guitar and singers. Thr DJ seem to lead the band in most songs so there is very little spontaniety. there are all sorts of samples, sounds  and it is probably as case of pressing play then adding samples on top.

Did i feel i was seeing a live show 100per cent yes!
