Renault Scenic value???

I have a R reg Renault Scenic 1600 auto and the gearbox has been diagnosed as 'dying'

Renault have quoted �1800 to replace (I know alternative garage will be approx �900)

I need to know the value of the car if gearbox was ok and the value of the car in its current condition.

The reason being, should I scrap it due to low value or repair it to trade in against a 'new' car.

Hi vespaboy I cant help with the value of the car but I have exactly the same car.  I'm a bit worried now and wondered how many miles yours has done as to wether it might be worth getting rid of mine.  Do you also find it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding or is this just me?

You are dead right about the power of the car, hills etc are a definate struggle as is pulling away at speed for any reason.

My car has done 90,000 miles, but, when I purchased it 3 years ago it had just had a new box!!!

The cars shape etc cannot be faulted and we have been all over the country camping in it without problem.

I love the ease of automatic but do not want a repeat so I'll probably go back to manual.

The amount you'd lose by trading in would probably be less than the cost of getting the work done, so it might be better to cut your losses and trade in, without repairing it. Most dealers will probably budget for a profit at trade in of about �500 at that age, so suddenly that repair bill looks steep. If you go for a car that there is plentiful supply of then the dealer will ask fewer questions about the trade in.

I can't imagine a 1600 auto would be enough oomph for a scenic, perhaps trade to a more recent diesel?
