there was a Ford Summertime Special compilation tape from 1985 or around that time which was sent out to owners of a Ford car at the time...can anyone tell me the songs on it - especially a ska song which had a verse saying 'the ball rolled up his trouser leg and stumped his middle wicket' ...its a long shot but worth a go!

I can't help with the compilation but the track you're after is the wonderful 'Big 6' by Judge Dread - born Alex Hughes, a former bouncer/ bodyguard from Brixton and very much a leading light of the ska/ mod movement in the UK. It was banned from the radio because of the way it turned nursery rhymes into something alittle bit rude ("Little Boy Blue go blow on yer horn") but it sold millions. Sadly he died (on stage) in 1998. There's a funny ands insightful interview with him at: http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/ayers/254/judge.
