I don't think he actually needed glasses. In 1967 he acted in a film called "How I Won The War" in which his character wore glasses, and he decided it was a good look so he kept wearing them.

i think ur worng or maybe ur right i dont no .

any one else wit any info?

He needed glasses as he couldn't see more than a couple of feet, but it was very unfashionable to wear the 'nerdy' glasses available. There are a few pics from the early days where he has on a pair of 'hornrims'. It is true, however, that he adopted the 'National Health' style glasses after wearing them in 'How I Won the War', but he most definitely did need them. I don't think contact lenses were an option back then.

I know this post has been on a while, but in an article by maureen Cleave i read years ago, she said that Lennon was too vain for specs, but too disorganised for contacts. They were around in the early 60s.

Lennon wore Buddy Holly style specs off-stage, but kept the granny specs he wore in "How I Won The War" because John Sebastian (of American group The lovin' Spoonful) wore them, and Lennon was a great fan of his.
