I love many different genres of music and how it can lift our spirits.
This is a lively piece, I like this piece because it inspires me to play the piano.

My teens were dominated by punk and I loved it, but when I took up bass guitar I started to look for and be influenced by more complicated stuff – almost inevitably I became a huge Level 42 fan, not that I was ever going to reach those heights.
For the past 5 years I played in a funk/disco covers band (left them some months ago, although I dep occasionally) where the requirement was for quite technical playing, and you know something? It began to bore me. Everything became too fiddly, everyone wanting to prove their musical virtuosity in front of audiences who didn’t give a hoot – they just wanted a good show and that’s where we were lacking.
I haven’t fully returned to punk – pop punk is my thing now, the likes of All Time Low, Sugarcult, even 5SOS, and contemporary rock by Fall Out Boy, Muse, Deaf Havana etc. With the exception of Muse (and for this reason I only take them in small doses) you very rarely hear a guitar solo; it’s all about the immediate effect of anthemic lyrics and, let’s face it, if you have music in the car you’re most likely to sing along to the words, not a fancy bassline.
