Atrial Fibrillation Or Heart Block?

Hi there on Sunday morning when in church I felt my heart pause numerous times so I checked my pulse and i was alarmed to discover it was regulary irregular if that makes sense it would beat 4 or 5 times then miss 2 beats i have learnt now not to panic with AF as I am on a blood thinner and betablocker this went on for 3 hours and then stopped all of a sudden and returned to normal. But i did read about something called heart block and that concerned me as my heart at the time was not that fast it was 80bpm but would heart block be slower? Im going to see the doc this week and hopefully get checked out maybe I need a change of betablocker. Im on bisoporol 10mg a day? Should this be happening with betablockers this heart rythm problem.

Irregularly irregular is an accurate description of the pulse rate and heart rate of atrial fibrillation which we know that you having treatment for..............no big deal there.

In heart block, depending upon the degree. 1stdeg, 2nd deg, 3rd degree or complete heart block will depend upon your treatment and pulse rate.
Your heart rate would be less than 40 bpm and yours was twice that............so no heart block there.

Beta blockers are unlikely to cause the symptoms of which you are complaining.

I had hoped that betablockers would totally prevent it

Gordie, you can't spend your life counting heartbeats, relax a bit and things will go better.

I have just seen your latest post.
Beta blockers will not affect the irregularity of your heart beat, but will slow it down if it stars to "race."
