I was at work - I remember it really clearly.

I sat there feeling stunned all day. Went home and watched the news, and cried my eyes out. My mum asked me why I was so upset over a 'pop star' - i didn't bother trying to explain.

Delivering the morning papers.

I still say Mark Chapman was a lousy shot...

I was 17 and working at my first job. The boss was a really stern S.O.B, but i came in that morning to find him slumped over his desk crying his eyes out. I didn't really know what to say or do, so i just made him a cuppa and sat and listened to him talk about Lennon and the Beatles, etc. I think after that day we got on famously.
As I was 5 years old I don't quite recall.  At school I guess.

Eating my breakfast before going to school. My mother always had Radio 2 and Terry-bloody-Wogan on in the mornings.

Perhaps if Chapman had spelt 'Lennon'  M - C- C -A - R - T - N - E - Y we might have been spared the years of crp like the Frog Chorus and those godawful WackoJacko collaborations.

Nice story, by the way, stevepj.

Bohunt School, Liphook - I was a 1st year and was either a maths lesson or one of those General Studies type things.

Next thread will be Lady Di I presume?

Ok, Booldawg, Lady Di. Which category are you going to post it in?
i was still but a twinkle in my parents eyes

I was just a scratch in my dad's boxers!!!

Needless to say i think john lennon is an idol, respective and talented artist, his memory will never be forgotten

I had just gotten into the Beatles a few month's before it happened when a friend of mine lent me an audio cassette of 'A hard day's night',asking ''Have you heard this new band?''. I listened to it and got so excited by it that I was jumpng up and down and was hooked forever. I found out my mum had a couple of their albums so i dug them out. I especially liked the distinctive vioce of one Beatle in particular (John Of Course!) but being only 9 years old I hadnt learned their names yet. On the day that John died, I had a phone call from another friend who asked if i had heard the news. I said I hadn't. He told me that John Lennon had been shot dead. I didnt know who John Lennon was, but I answered something like ''Really!'', because this particular friend of mine never phoned me so i guessed i was expected to know who he was talking about. When I came off the phone I went to my mum and said ''Guess what, John Lennon has been shot dead!'' She said ''I know'', to wich i replied ''Who's he again?''    When she told me who he was I felt a gulp in my throat and a sense of loss. For some reason i'll never know, I knew at that moment it was the one whose voice I liked on the records, and that it would effect my life forever. 25 years on and I am still a Beatle Fanatic and the records are still as fresh as the first day I heard them all those years ago!

Whatever you may think of Mccartneys output since The Beatles split Brachiopod, the fact remains he wrote some of the greatest songs ever written when he was a Beatle, and is therefore one of the most gifted songwriters the world has ever known. He is a living legend and most certainly does not deserve to be shot!

Probably writing letters to santa
..I was in the first year of secondary school , and that evening we had to write a report from an item on the news, I wrote about John Lennon's shooting, I found my old school book a couple of years back, was really strange reading my childlike version of events...
I had just gone to bed, and then my brother ran in to tell me the news.  He'd heard Howard Cosell announce it on Monday Night Football.

I woke up..got out of bed...ran the comb across my head...went down ..stairs and..drunk ..a ..cup...

Then I turned on the radio..and heard my hero ..had been  shot..  I was devastated..  Must have cried ..a million tears ..that day...!!

It was my 18th birthday  ..

Stood in front of him holding a gun LOL
Well, they say happiness is a warm gun......
madjack.. i think that's sick.
Just out if school, working on a job creation scheme in a storeroom, with some miserable old git who thought that the beatles were crap.
