Knockin on Heaven's Door from Pat Garrett, but I think Clapton wrote it for some reason.
Rolling Stone!  best by far
It's got to be 'She Belongs To Me'. I reminds me - in the way that songs do - of the French assistant we had at school when I was in the fifth form, I had a massive crush on her. This was playing in the Art Rom when I could see her walking below, the memoryis etched on my memory for ever. It was the first time I realsied I was attracted to women with mysterious accents and gaelic features - she was gorgeous - probably still is!
It has to be "It aint me, babe" I think Bob's voice really shines in this song and the words are just poetry "someone who will die for you and more..but it aint me babe" I love so many of his songs but this is a clear winner for me.
Lay Lady Lay
the hurricane
Positively 4th Street
totally agree bamfish, it's got to be hurricane

Desolation Row.

dothawkes, Clapton did record a version of the song (a painful reggae version) that he released as a single, but it's a Bob original.

As to my favourite Bob song, I could narrow it down to about 15, but it would take a while. I listened to "Blood on the Tracks" yesterday, so today I will go for "Tangled Up In Blue" - I just love the disjointed structure and the perfect lyrics.

Lily,Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. You can really imagine whats taking place. Rolling Stone is a masterpiece!  Well most of Bobs work is.

I'm with you Brachiopod, Desolation Row is way up there as one of the greatest songs by anybody. The same could be said about no end of Dylan, but for me this is the best.

Has to be Subterranean Homesick Blues
Don't Think Twice It's Alright
