Right, I’ve had it with these clowns. When they gave me a new tariff a couple of years ago it was to reduce my typical £40+ bills to about £30. Last two have been £80 and £65. My line is fibre optic.
But who should I go to? It’s just phone and broadband I want – not TV. Was thinking about PlusNet because their charges seem good but I have no idea about their service. And of course their endlessly repeated ads (I think I’ve watched them enough to count the number of whittled spoons) make me want to avoid them on principle. Working from home, I have Internet running nearly all the time, but the pages I visit/refresh most frequently are text-based, no large amount of data until the evenings when I might browse a few dozen songs on YouTube. Phone use is almost nil.
Any suggestions?

The only two who are Which? Recommended Providers (the ultimate accolade) are Utility Warehouse and John Lewis Broadband...I'm with the latter and have never needed to complain about anything!

Didn’t know John Lewis did broadband – looks very reasonable; but I thought Utility Warehouse lumped your broadband, electricity, water etc into one package? Don’t really want to go that way.
bhg – in all honesty, since the previous (£80) bill I think I’ve made TWO phone calls of 5-10 minutes each. The TalkTalk bills have been gradually increasing, probably by £3-4 a month, ever since they offered the new tariff. I could understand the £80 bill as I made two fairly long calls to Canada at Christmas, but for the last 6 months or so bills have been in the £55-65 range.

Not sure what plan I’m on, bhg, which sounds daft but I only get online billing and the info is hard to find, not least because I don’t log in to pay. When the process goes through to WorldPay (or whichever version they use; can’t remember) one of the things asked for is a 10-character password and even my bank has no idea what it refers to!
