Downloading Audio

With regard to audio books from, say, Audible.co.uk, how do you download an audio book and is this downloaded onto your PC, thereby obliging you to only being able to listen on the PC or can the audio, once downloaded, be transferred to a 'normal' CD(s).
Other than my PC, I only have CD players, no tablets, etc, because I don't like being obliged to have to wear earphones, I like to listen 'in the open', as it were. Ta Muchly.

I'm not sure you would be able to download a book from Audible, but then I could be wrong about that. I thought it was a streaming service.

If you manage to download a book it will depend on the format it is in. If it is a standard mp3 file, then yes, you will be able to transfer this onto a cd or USB stick.

Audible is not a streaming service. You can register 4 devices with your Audible/Amazon account (Audible is owned by Amazon).
You can access your library from any or all of your registered devices and download the books. If you delete a book from your device, it remains in your Audible library online, and you can re-download it as often as you want.
If you buy a new device (I use may Android phone as my primary device), just install the Audible software, register it to you account, and start using it.
If you dispose of a device, just un-register it from Audible, so that you can register another.

Just to be clear, you can download your Audible files to PCs, Macs, iPhones, iPads, Android phones and Android tablets (including, of course Amazon Fire tablets).

Most Hifi systems have an Aux-in or Line-in socket that you will allow you to plug your tablet/phone in, so that you don't need to use ear buds or headphones. Also of course, you can get dedicated wired or wireless speakers for them.
It's possible to rip the Audible content to CD but (as far as I know) only by playing it through the Audible player, which means that a 10 hour book will take over 10 hours to rip!

The audio books you download will be protected by Digital Rights Management (most probably) but this still allows you to burn each book once to CD.

Don't forget that you can also download audio books from your public library for free but it will be trickier to burn them to CD, but not impossible.

There are a considerable number of free audio books at gutenberg.org - some are machine read and others are read by people with very strong accents but it is free.
