I have just listened to "The Lark Ascending" by Vaughan Williams.

I must have heard this a thousand times but it still sounds as magical as it did, when I first heard it at age 15.

Does anyone else have a piece of favorite classical music that has stood the test of time ?

The Chorus Of The Hebrew Slaves is one of my favourites. Truly magical.
Concierto de Aranjuez does it for me.
Yes the first time I heard Albinoni's Adagio for Strings at school it blew me away and still does.
Only recently have I found and come to love most, if not quite all, of The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins. Poignant and uplifting at the same time.
Mozart's Laudate Dominum from Solemn vespers, timeless.
Part. Spiegel Im Spiegel.
Franck. Panis Angelicus.
Intermezzo from cavalleria rusticana by Mascagni, sublime
///Part. Spiegel Im Spiegel. ///

We had that at our wedding.....:o)

Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto is my Desert Island Disc.
Isn't this the sort of thread ine expects each post to contain a YouTube link ?
was that on classic Fm mikey? I was listening to that tonight but forgot what it was called
Adagio for Strings (Samuel Barber) for me is almost an out of body experience.
The Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore.
Let's see if YT is working tonight.

Love 'The Lark Ascending'. My dad was a huge fan of British 'impressionism' and that was one of the ones I heard a lot throughout my life.

On the whole, I have to say that Delius' 'Song of the High Hills' transports me into another world. All my life I would wake up on a Sunday morning to hear that wonderful music. We played it at Dad's funeral - and I want it at mine.

Delius has been much underrated for past 50 years. Anyone who doesn't know - give him a try (my Dad actually saw him play!). Sea Drift - if you have the words - is heartbreaking.
I have a favourite by a country mile. It makes me cry it's that good.

The link is not working - it's Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. Just. Stunning.
Mamya I see it has the same effect on you as it does for me. This makes me happy :)
Yes, I was a huge fan of Albinoni's Adagio and then I heard Barber in a wonderful setting with pure acoustics , it was sheer heaven.
Have you heard the choral version of Barber's Adagio for Strings arranged by Barber himself - Agnus Dei? Beautiful, and well worth searching out
