Well Blue Moon was written in 1934 by Rogers and Hart (this is the Rogers who teamed up with Hammerstein to write South Pacific, Sound of music, King and I and other great musicals).

In fact the TUNE had been around for a while and they had already written two different sets of lyrics to the tune before they finally settled on Blue Moon.
