I have a Line6 SpiderJam, and use a Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer (to be honest I don't think it comprrsses at all), and an NS-2 Noisegate. It massively helps with, of course, the reduction if that amp hum at higher volumes and help hold notes for longer. However, I seem to lose tone and volume when playing. Can I fix this by getting a Compression and Equalizing pedal or is there anything else I can do? It seem ls that for clean settings it is great but for heavy styled playing it is where the issues arrise
If you are using a single effects pedal, then you shouldn't need a noise gate. If you find that the noise gate is required, then you should get the electrics on your guitar checked out.
Compression inevitably causes distortion and makes the sound blah. It totally kills any crescendo. Learn how to use the dynamic range of your instrument properly.
