Off out tonight to watch this band at the Corn Exchange.

Anyone else seen them? They are outstandingly good, apparently.

I'm really looking forward to it.

have you seen The Floyd Effect, Andy?
How was it Tilly?

Not seen Floyd effect but i've seen the brilliant Aussie Pink Floyd 3 times. Nick Mason is quoted as saying "they're probably better then us" and Gilmour got them to play at his wedding....allegedly!!!!
I sang at Bedford Corn Exchange, Tilly! It was when I was in the school choir. We always came 2nd because the main judge hated my teacher who was the choir master. She was awful. I also detested her!

It was absolutely fantastic, Hammerman. I'm still buzzing!
According to Mr T, they were note perfect and the lead singer sounded so much like Dave Gilmour that, if you closed your eyes you would have though it was really them.

My one complaint would be that at times, it was too loud. I have problems with my hearing and at times it all just became a deafening 'fuzz'. I ended up stuffing some rolled up tissue in my ears and then I could hear the music properly.

I also didn't really like being confined to a seat. I wanted to be up, dancing and leaping about :-)

I would definitely go and see them again and I will look out for the Aussie Pink Floyd.

That school choir music festival still happens, Sir A. Which school were you at?
Dame Alice, the High School, The Convent?
Good grief, no Tilly! It was when I was at Hazeldene, in Putnoe. The teacher was Miss Tessa Lamb. Only interested in music and religion. She was horrible to me!

My sister passed the 11 plus and went to Dame Alice. The 11 plus stopped in the year before I was due to do it, so I went to Newnam for 2 years, till it became a middle school. Then I was shipped off to Mark Rutherford.
Question Author
Sir A, I taught at Newman, when it was a Middle School. Small world. :-)
Question Author
Mark Rutherford, all brand new and sparking when you went there, I bet.
I really liked Newnham, Tilly. It was sad that it became a middle school. I'd have rather stayed there than go to Rutherford. My parents wanted me to go to Pilgrim.
Question Author
Pilgrim has closed now. :-(
Yes, Tilly, it was absolutely brand new, in September 1976.
My friend, Timmy Woods was on his bicycle, going to look at his new school when he was knocked down and killed at the top of Putnoe Lane. He was 12. It was on the front page of the Bedford on Sunday. I've still got the clipping.
Question Author
Aw! How terrible for you. I don't remember that, even though I was living in Bedford at that time.

How sad.
The houses on Wentworth Drive, opposite Rutherford were still being built when I first went there and every morning I passed a man walking his dog, a Labrador. The dog always had half a brick in its mouth. I've always remembered that as it must have been heavy and uncomfortable for the dog, but it seemed happy enough. Dogs are weird, aren't they!
Question Author
They can be, yes!

I'm shocked that Pilgrim has closed. My Mum worked on school meals there for a few years before getting a job at Wyvern House, the DSS as it was called in those days. I got a job at General Accident, next door to her. She'd sometimes go to the window and wave at me!
Question Author
Sir A, let's move to CB.
Glad you enjoyed it Tilly- I have considered going to one of these Floyd tribute bands as I never saw Pink Floyd live even though I bought all their 70s albums (and some 60s stuff)- but there are quite a few such tribute bands and I could never decide. I'll look out for The Floyd Effect now.
Question Author
Here's next year's tour dates, FF.

Thanks Tilly. Will have to travel 20-30 miles but will find one. Venues seem pretty small though. Roughly how many people were at yours?
Question Author
700-800 probably, FF. All seated.
