Do Posties Get A Bonus For Non-Delivery?

My postman is (apparently) bonkers ...

I was sat quietly - no noise, no radio, no music, not even the TV - just reading - waiting for a parcel that Royal Mail had said was 'out for delivery'.

I heard the noise of something being stuffed through the door - but nothing else - no knock, no bell.

It was only a magazine ...

... neatly wrapped around a 'while you were out' card - I nearly missed the card.

So I rushed outside and called after him - and he had my books in his bag - claimed to have knocked twice and also rung the bell and heard it ring - which is just not true.

It was a heavy parcel - he surely wouldn't have wanted to carry it any further than necessary - I wonder if they get some sort of bonus for non-delivered packets? Or a payment when they eventually re-deliver?

My postie has started opening my door and putting things in the porch.

That happened to me, Dave......when I caught him in the street he swore he rang the bell.....which is loud!...x

My postman is brilliant...if he can't deliver an item, he leaves it in my secret "safe place" and leaves a card. Never failed yet.

Mine has always been a star - incredibly helpful - but this is a new bloke ...

Our posties are wonderful, because our letterbox is fierce we tell them to try the door and put things in the porch. When I told her we were off on holiday and to make sure stuff was pushed all the way through she said Oh, I'll hang onto them and bring them when you're back, which she did.

My postie is generally great. But sometimes small "signed for" items just get shoved through the slot.

i think the posties run a competition back at the depot to see who can knock on your door and run out of sight the quickest

If it's the foot postie then no. But the vans get extra for each re delivery, well they did a few years ago when my friend worked there.

I've had a similar experience - a signed for item. I was in, we have a bell which didn't ring. I happened to see him getting back into his van outside my house. I went and asked him for the parcel to which he replied "too late, I've pressed the non-delivery button". I had to get down on bended knee and beg him to do whatever was necessary to hand over the item. Absolutely ridiculous.

you would be suprised sunny dave the amount of people who never used to hear me ring their bell or knock on the door when i was delivering a parcel i worked 24 years in royal mail,the last thing you wanted was to take the parcel back and have to bring it out again on a (739) a re-delivery the next day, why would i get a bonus for not delivering your parcel very strange thing to say

i may not hear the knock on the door but my dog does and she lets me know there's somebody there :-)

50% of the posties are from Eastern Europe and struggle to understand the instructions they are given during their training (I am a current postman)and NO we dont get paid a bonus for non-delivery of items, it can be a right pain having the fill out the details esp on a P739 when its raining and carrying the item around with you for the rest of the delivery.

Van drivers get extra my eye...

Postpeople just get salary, end of. Overtime, sometimes, scheduled overtime at Christmas and to cover duties, and free Christmas stamps.

Obviously getting confused with private couriers.

And 50% of positives are East European....! Grow up.

Postdog - my delivery was by a Royal Mail postie in a Royal Mail van - it's a rural area so my post always comes by van.

no they do not get any reward for items taken back to the office,believe me it's better for the postman if he can deliver it first time.
