Desmond Carrington had a unique style of broadcasting, with a sense of warmth which made listeners feel that he and 'golden paws' Sam were in the room with them. He'll be much-missed but it was perhaps opportune that Radio 2's tribute to him was already in the schedule for this evening, so that his voice could be heard again only a few hours after he passed away.
^^^ I don't think that Radio 2 is quite that desperate to get rid of excellent presenters, Gromit (although Janice Long and Alex Lester might wonder about it!)
Desmond Carrington retired from broadcasting, at the age of 90, last October due to his health problems. (He had both incurable cancer and increasing memory problems through dementia). Tonight's programme was a tribute to his broadcasting career, rather than deliberately placed at the end of his life.
I'm sorry to hear that. I remember watching him in Emergency Ward 10 all those years ago and loved his Radio Programme, so laid back - and where he found some of the 'records' no-one knows. He'll be missed.
