New Website Faq - Please Read Before Posting
17 Answers
Hello!
Welcome to the new AnswerBank. Don't worry, it'll all be clear in a moment! This is a mini FAQ to help you understand the changes, benefits of the new site, and the way to resolve common issues.
I'm posting this here and now because there's a great many of you who only visit on the weekends for a peek at a puzzle clue to two. As such, you might have missed the wild time we had going live on Monday, or the several updates we've applied in between.
1. FEEDBACK
We would like to hear your feedback, if you've not had chance to provide any. You can do so here, or on the dedicated feedback thread over here: http:// www.the answerb ank.co. uk/AB-E ditors- Blog/Qu estion1 535393. html
2. THE SITE LOOKS WEIRD, TEXT IS RUNNING OUT OF BOXES! HELP!
This is because your browser is trying to dress the new site, in the old site's clothes. And they don't fit! To fix this on your desktop/laptop, please press CTRL + F5 at the same time to do a "hard refresh". After a couple of presses, this should straighten things out. If that doesn't work, please "clear your browsing data", under "more tools" in the menu on Chrome.
For ipads and iphones: a couple of refreshes should work, if not: visit the settings, then safari and then select clear cookies and history
For android devices: Use the menu button to option your menu options. Here there will either be an option for "more tools" or "clear browsing data"
3. WHERE ARE THE CATEGORIES?
At the top under the "more categories" or "hamburger menu" (the three lines on a black box). This will drop out categories for you to look at. Sub categories can be viewed by pressing the + symbol on the parent category.
There's also a list at the bottom, if you don't want to jump back to the top.
4. WHY DID YOU REDESIGN THE SITE?
Two thirds of our visitors arrive using a tablet, or a phone. The old site didn't cater for these visitors, and many would just turn away.
We also had lots of members complaining about the font size, so we boosted that, and chose a font that's very easy to read.
We took the opportunity to tidy up a few bits and bobs around the site, and make some of the functions a little more obvious.
5. I HATE IT AND WILL NEVER GET USED TO IT
Some started like that, and then, came round to the redesign. Give it a chance, send us some feedback and make sure you're seeing the site in the right way and see how you get on. We're still listening and hope to have another mini update in the future. If you do send feed back, try and be specific
6. I LOVE IT, THANKS
No, thank you! We've had some lovely positive comments, the developer and designer (who don't get to speak to you as often as I do) really appreciate any positive feedback.
7. I'VE SPOTTED SOMEONE ELSE STRUGGLING WITH THE NEW SITE, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Help. I know you would anyway, but it gives me a chance to say that it's really nice to see how so many of you help one another out. Often you'll beat me to it, and it warm my cockles to see everyone being nice to each other.
Thanks for reading, I hope you have a good weekend!

A lot of Q&P users don't come on except for the weekend. I'm hoping they see this, and take the opportunity to have their voices heard. As you know, they're the biggest (and least vocal) constituency of the website.

You too, Ed....and many congratulations to you and all there for your hard work at getting the site up and running......
Personally, I think it's definitely far better than the old site, it's much faster too, as the old one tended to have a tendancy, at times, to be really slow....And even sometimes throw you out completely.
So great, keep up the good work, Ed and enjoy your weekend :-)
