Ode For The Scots This Evening
33 Answers
They wish they could return to safe arms
a home, a hearth, a warm heart a place to call their own
Rugby dreams that shattered like slivers
as the Twickenham, ground beneath their feet shook and trembled
The Scots, trying to keep a tartan foothold,
slipped, bruised, fell, got up and tried to scrum again
one step two steps, one more then fall again
all the while their head highs, show the English lionhearts no pain
shed no tears for when their four brothers fell
the first aid arms that reached to save them
seek some gratification, three converted tries in kind
leave the hellish Sweet Chariot place, just leave them all behind
and walk - not too fast
to lose the English magic of what had just happened,
fast so as to miss the bloody London sunset
the soreness of a hammering - one step at a time
into the horizon- awae hame ta think again.

Good ode. Someone once said that the Scots were brilliant at writing wonderful songs about awful defeats - can't remember who it was.
I was so disappointed in the match, could scarcely see glimmers of the wonderful team-play which won before. Wing areas left defenceless...........were they psyched-out?

Db - I absolutely agree that Rugby is a 'cut above' ..... and, for those who are not aficionados, Rugby League is 'possibly' more so. I'm just disappointed that Scotland played nowhere near their best. I was looking forward to a really good match - odds always on England, but Scotland have played so well so far that it was a real downer......Fortunately I can support both teams! :)

I take it this is about the Rugby! I will admit that I would have preferred Scotland to have won but it was not to be.
I tried to get a YouTube clip of the Scots singing the anthem (or some other patriotic song) but couldn't find it.
I was going to post a clip about Hercules the bear, but can't find that either. :-)
G-goalie --- I always support Scotland (masochist?). But if they have to lose I prefer that is to England. Something in my head I daresay, but I grew up learning to read 'The Broons' and holidays were spent in Glasgow and Ayrshire visiting relatives (mostly kilt-wearers) - so I am, honestly, split. I would have loved Scotland to have won this evening or even get a third try for the point. Have a holiday near Hawick booked in May, apropos of nothing. It is very difficult to be half-and-half. Yorkshire or Scottish? Not had a problem until the last few years.
