I'm doing a bit of research. I'd like to know, in your opinion, when was the last year that you remember listening to/enjoying pop music/thinking the songs were good? When was the last great year for pop, for you? And how old were you when this year took place?

I bought the new Ed Sheeran CD and love it. Listen to it every day, well when I'm in the car. Radio 4 is on when I'm in the kitchen, which is most of the time!
I think that depends on age.....
For me it was 1990, aged 20.

Thank you cloverjo- that's what I'm after! A year and your age :)
Apart from, possibly 4 records/cds, I haven't been moved to buy anything new since the late 70s - my mid 20s. Having said that I didn't buy much before that. I am firmly of the opinion that we like the type of music that was popular in our teens and early 20s and generally our taste doesn't change...if we buy more later on it will be of a similar style to that which we liked earlier
Never- or it always was.

Tastes often change. As we get older we start saying all the things our parents used to say which annoyed us- they all sound the same, can't sing, no tune,..

Amongst the repetitive dross (which i accept others love) there are still some pretty good tracks being made in my opinion.

Preference is late 60s/early 70s but I still listen to radio 1 now as I approach 60
Scarlett....I am not sure if this will help !

I don't buy or listen to pop music any more now I'm afraid. I probably gave it up when punk came along, in the mid-70s.

I completely abhor all that awful rap music, and I think there is a special place in hell reserved for that dance music that sounds like machinery starting up.

I now listen almost exclusively to what most people would call classical music.
My enjoyment of chart music went into a steep decline the same year as Chris Moyes took over on radio one I think it was 2004. I was about 45. At the time Top of the Pops was still a program I watched without fail until it ended.
hi scarlett i would say 70 s that was my era by the way how are you keeping with your problem im still struggling with mine await hospital app cheers
"When was the last great year for pop, for you?"

1969
March 3, 2000 is the day the music died

There's always been some good and some dreadful music. You only have to watch reruns of TOTP on BBC4 to be reminded of the dross.
When you look back you normally only hear the classics from the past, so it is easy to wear rose tinted spectacles.
now this is the tune hopkirk and myself grew up with..

Yes, and strangely The Lord Is My Shepherd.
The early eighties...I forget my age.
Hoppy, why did we sing the lord is my shepperd? Mind u it was uplifting, and I'm no holy joe
