La Scala and Monet would be delightful. My childhood and the area I was raised in did not lend itself to anything like that. I kept quiet about enjoying opera until I matured enough to not care of others opinions.

I was brought up listening to classical/opera Donny..my grandpa was very much into it too , an ex's father was a conductor of renown and I was fortunate enough to share much of his time when in rehearsal etc.. met Previn at his home when he stayed for the festival.. the ex played first trumpet in the SNO...

In the streets where I grew up you could not mention opera , ballet or classical music of any type. I found a secret pleasure in my earphones and the radio but would have been careful not to mention it.
