Hello. I was wondering if anyone had any favourite sea shanties. I am quite a fan of The Drunken' Sailor. I am hoping to gather some together for a pirate themed shindig for my Grandson.

when i was one i slapped my bum and ran away to sea, jumped aboard a pirate ship and the captain said to me, we're going this way, that way over the irish sea, a bottle of rum .....

i think it was a counting song for infants though as i remember it from very young school age (not sure the words are the right ones though....as i remember the next line as being "when i was 2 i did a poo and ran away to sea...)

I'm not exactly sure what constitutes a sea shanty but The Dubliners have various songs about life on the high seas. Try these :
Home Boys Home,
Donegal Danny,
Farewell to Carlingford,
Go to Sea No More,
Irish Rover,
Net Hauling Song, and a really good one is
The Craic Was Ninety in the Isle of Man.
That should keep you going and let me know if they are actually shanties at all.

Hello all. This is not so much a shanty but boy does it have a great vibe about it. Especially considering it was Saint Patrick's Day last weekend. The Grandsons pirate party is this weekend, thanks again for the music suggestions.
