Help Finding Song

I'm trying to think of a song from late nineties or early 2000s. It's a male singer with guitar and I think one of lyrics is about losing his heart out in New York city, but that could be way off. I think it's similar in sound to Mmm Mmm Mmm by Crash Test Dummies. Any ideas?

Still can't get it, I'm wracking my brain trying to think of any lines from it. It's definitely not by any overly famous acts like Lenny or REM though. Agghh!!

Hey guys, thanks for all the guesses but I just found it. Once I remembered there was a rap part I was able to remember a few more lyrics. The line was actually I got my lights knocked out in New York City. This is the song in case else is interested. Thanks.
