reading the thread about MasterCard
and seeing the news with all the quotes from twitter
most slagging MasterCard off for some misguided ad campaign
how many of those criticising are sitting on savings sat in their bank account instead of sending some to thee starving children ?
how many of them are wasting cash on luxuries instead of sending some to the starving children ?
how many are living in nice homes with spare unused empty rooms instead of offering them up to the homeless?
we live in a privileged world in very good conditions and should count ourselves lucky and not criticise those that offer help in any way they feel fit

There are almost countless good causes. And one has to ensure one's own life minimises troubles. Balance in everything, including saving/spending/giving. The method of offering conditional aid is a valid one to debate though. Feeling lucky doesn't really come into it.

I wouldn't and neither would most of us however there are individuals who actually go to these places independently you may know someone like this and could give it to them

some of my salary does go to charity
and if only I had spare space in my home
I have 5 children two still living at home full time
the other 3 when they need to or want to or have had a row

When I give to charity (and I am not going to discuss what when and how much on here) I do so without limitations or expectations of any return. I don't dangle the prospect of a donation in front of organisations and then set ridiculous conditions on it. I don't donate to self promote or for business reasons....I don't make a game or a sensation out of it. Are you saying that the folk at Mastercard or the footballers involved are giving up one iota of their comfortable lives or luxury purchases to fund their nasty minded promotion? Because I very much doubt it.

if you were to sponsor a person in the London marathon at £1 a mile you would expect to donate £26 max however if they failed to finish and stopped at the pub at the 18 mile marker how much would you then donate ?

If you sponsor a fun runner at £1 a mile and they cross America would you still be able to honour the £1 a mile ?

I don't sponsor fun runners at so much a mile or doers of anything at so much per whatever. If I am asked to donate and do so then I donate what I think is right without strings or conditions. I certainly don't publicise the fact.
