I agree. bit too controversial perhaps, Bono calling the US president from stage, etc. I'm sure they're not in the least bit bothered.

Big for boots springs to mind. He's a musician, not a world leader. He abuses his position to push his political views on others. Still writes some good music though.

People are asked BEFORE the announcement if they want the award.

This gives them a chance to turn it down quietly, rather than have it anounced and then say they do not want it, which would be embarrasing.

Maybe Bono and the rest of U2 have been asked but turned it down. After all is is a bit difficult to critisize the government when you have just got an MBE or whatever.
