She was clearly a fool to take the drugs, but him filming her as she died ….what a creature! Is eight and a half years an appropriate sentence?

No it isnt!! theres a very thin line between murder and manslaughter;
"Second-degree murder: any intentional murder with malice aforethought, but is not premeditated or planned in advance. ... All three crimes above feature an intent to kill, whereas involuntary manslaughter is "unintentional", because the killer did not intend for a death to result from their intentional actions."
The intent was there, he watched her die and never called for help even though the first aid tent was close by!

he was more concerned about his reputation with the law than her well being. Murder in my opinion

and yes she was a fool to take the drugs
so to a certain extent consenting/cooperating

As is often the case the sentence never seems to fit the crime.

However,case specifics and emotional aspects sometimes increases our revulsion but the judge has to follow sentencing guidelines.

It's not a matter of the circumstances as they are, but the intention, and if that intention can be proven in law beyond a reasonable doubt - and clearly this was not the case.

Knowing something is one thing - proving it in court is another.

Lets hope that her family can get a retrial, the family of that woman who murdered her husband, managed to get one.

Big case on manslaughter - anyone got the ref ? where the conviction turned on whether the drug fiend has injected the dead man or whether he had done it himself. Binary - given by someone - manslaughter and gave it himself - not guity

and - - here we have the fella gave the girl an oral ( that means 'by mouth') drug so she might easily taken it herself. And if she self administered - then why is he responsible since there is no duty to assist in a passerby?

I think they were lucky get conviction..... - when there are deaths in a dossers den - you dont imprison all the other druggies saying you should have helped .....

Sounds like a regular occurrence except this time it went wrong.

Proving that he knew what the outcome would be, despite him being more concerned with breaching a previous order,was less clear cut.

Oh,and just to add...

The hammer case retrial was ordered because of evidence not presented at the original trial.

This case cannot be compared and no retrial ordered unless there is an appeal and the court considers that evidence should have been presented.
