Bt Hudson 1500 No Sound.

Please can anyone help. I have a BT Hudson 1500 phone. Although you can see on the screen when there is an incoming call, the handset and base are not ringing and there is no dial tone. I have checked the ringer volume on both and it is fine, have tried new batteries and disconnecting everything for 10 minutes before plugging it all back in. Everything on the screen works as normal, for e.g. if you dial a number the number comes up and the timer starts but there is no sound. It has happened once before but a long time ago and I cannot remember how I eventually got it sorted. Any ideas most welcome!
